I am an Ambivert!

The great Andy Hiles has just shared a post from Forbes about this topic and what was a few minute read has blown my mind. Link to the topic can be found here: 9 Signs That You’re An Ambivert forbes.com • 4 min read

As I read each of the signs, I had to agree with all them, this is me, I am an Ambivert. I have for years been put into the category of being an Extrovert, not only by myself but others as-well (friends and bosses), but I always knew in my heart whilst I loved being an extrovert this was not me, I have this introvert side that I dont really show and when I do people often are left confused and whilst I did try to explain this “behaviour” in the end I stopped doing that and often hid the Introvert away, but not anymore why should I hide it when in-fact I am an Ambivert!

So here are the signs that made me think and want to learn more about them, they are:

· I can perform tasks alone or in a group. I don’t have much preference either way.

· Social settings don’t make me uncomfortable, but I tire of being around people too much.

· Being the centre of attention is fun for me, but I don’t like it to last.

· Some people think I’m quiet, while others think I’m highly social.

· I don’t always need to be moving, but too much down time leaves me feeling bored.

· I can get lost in my own thoughts just as easily as I can lose myself in a conversation.

· Small talk doesn’t make me uncomfortable, but it does get boring.

· When it comes to trusting other people, sometimes I’m skeptical, and other times, I dive right in.

· If I spend too much time alone, I get bored, yet too much time around other people leaves me feeling drained.

Whilst I need to learn more about this topic and expand my thinking and learning to not only help myself but also for those I coach I think I need to understand how this impact those I coach from an Agile coaching stance.

And I will tell you for why, often by default or bias we make judgement on a person being Introvert/Extrovert and then shift our coaching to help that personality type/category. After reading this article I so think as an Agile Coach I am doing them a mis-service . . So I need to piviot and learn, 1st about myself so this helps my self awarness and then 2nd how to apply this learning to others and my role of Agile coaching.

I will keep you updated I am sure by writing about it

As Always
